American Center, Calcutta Hosts Mini Book Fair, December 8-10
Calcutta – The American Center in Calcutta will present a Mini Book Fair with newly arrived contemporary collections on the United States from December 8-10, 2005.
The new collections at the American Information Resource Center (AIRC), more popularly known as the American Library to book buffs, include the latest titles on management and business trends, computer technology, English as a second language, contemporary American society, and American fiction that includes writings by noted South Asian American writers such as Bharati Mukherjee, Jhumpa Lahiri and Amy Tan.
Due to rising local interest in English, and American English, the new AIRC collection on English as a second language is geared to both teachers and those seeking to learn American English. Multimedia resources, workbooks and books of general interest in easy to read formats, enable users to learn American usage, as well as gain knowledge about American culture.
Some of today's hottest business topics – computer technology and management – are the focus of new computer science and management collections replete with training guides and manuals. The latest attraction in the AIRC is an updated and enhanced collection on contemporary American society to satisfy readers' curiosity on life in the U.S.
The three-day Mini Book Fair and new collections will be formally launched in the Lincoln Room of the American Center on December 8. In addition to collection exhibits, special programs have been arranged on "Communication Strategies and Methodology in English Language Teaching" and "Leadership and Management in the Era of Globalization" in which eminent scholars, academics and management experts will participate during the book fair. Added attractions include a quiz competition on December 9 and screening of the American classic "West Side Story" on December 10. Entry is free to the public, and discounted membership rates for 2006 will also be available for new and current members.
