TSUNAMI To Rock Calcutta
U.S. Navy Band On 5-Day Performance Tour To Kolkata, Environs
Calcutta, September 8: Lovers of American jazz, pop, rock and disco music will have an opportunity to hear the latest when the Pacific Fleet Band of the U.S. Navy visits Calcutta on a five-day schedule of lecture demonstrations and performances beginning September 11. The eight-member ensemble, TSUNAMI, is a high energy contemporary musical team with an extensive repertoire encompassing popular music from the 1940s to today’s latest hits.
The band will arrive from Chennai for a Kolkata schedule which includes a lecture demonstration at the Calcutta School of Music for students and local jazz musicians, a performance under the auspices of the Navy office, and a presentation for students and faculty members in the auditorium of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur.
TSUNAMI will also perform at the American Center for the city’s music buffs and jazz connoisseurs, as well as for St. James School and the Marine Engineering College and Research Institute in Taratala.
Under operational control of the Commander, United States Pacific Fleet, the Pacific Fleet Band is dedicated to providing top quality musical support for official ceremonies and other community events. Additionally, the band supports musical services, which reinforce Navy recruiting efforts and community relations, thereby increasing community awareness and promoting respect and the professional reputation of the U.S. Navy. Like its naval counterparts Dixie Express, Harbor Brass and the Tradewinds, TSUNAMI’s electrifying blend of current and classic hits is sure to jump-start any event.
