U.S. CLEAN ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL COMPANIES JOIN TRADE MISSION TO CHINA AND INDIA

Washington - Nineteen U.S. companies have joined the third U.S. Clean Energy and Environment Trade Mission to China and India.  Prior to visiting India September 8-12, the mission will stop in Beijing, Jinan and Shanghai, China. 

The participating companies belong to industry sectors advanced by the Asia Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate (APP).  The APP is a Presidential priority to achieve a reduction in the intensity of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions and enhance energy security, in the context of sustained economic growth.  This mission will match participating U.S. companies with opportunities in these fast-growing markets where American clean energy and environmental firms can thrive while helping improve the environment and meeting China and India's incredible demand for energy.

"The 19 companies participating in this mission represent the cutting edge of U.S. innovation, which can boost the efforts of China and India to meet their massive energy demands while improving the environment," said Bohigian.  "We are bringing some of the most exciting technologies to two of the most dynamic economies in the world.  In doing so, this trade mission advances the goals of the President to ensure energy security, drive economic growth, and address climate change through industry-led solutions."

Projections from government planning documents indicate that the clean technology market in China will increase to $186 billion in 2010 and to $555 billion in 2020.  Additionally, market assessments indicate that India could eventually be the largest renewable energy market in the world, given its abundance of renewable energy resources.

Assistant Secretary Bohigian will be joined by representatives from: 3 Tier; Advanced Power Systems International, Inc.; Air Monitor; AWS Truewind; Azurepower Inc.; Carus Corporation; Covanta Energy Corporation; Despatch Industries; EcoEnergy Solutions Inc.; Filter-1 Clean Air Consultants; General Biodiesel Inc.; Geometrica Inc.; GE Energy; Helix Mirco Inc.; Oakland County, Mich., Government; Rockwell Automation; Synergics Energy Services; LLC, VASA Associations Inc.; and Vista International Inc.

These clean energy and environmental companies specialize in energy efficiency, renewable energy, resource mapping, energy storage, distributed generation, water purification, and pollution abatement. They offer innovative solutions to China and India's energy and environmental challenges and are potential partners to the countries' business and government leaders.

The APP is a public-private partnership including seven partner countries, representing half of the world's economy, population and energy consumption: Australia, Canada, China, India, Japan, South Korea and the United States.  Member countries work together to break down policy barriers and facilitate commercial deployment of technologies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance energy security.
