World Health Day And Safe Motherhood Day
U.S. Consulate to Present Programs In Ranchi, April 10-11

Calcutta – The Public Affairs Office of the U.S. Consulate General in Calcutta will present a series of programs on April 10 and 11 to commemorate “World Health Day” and "Safe Motherhood Day " in Ranchi. The programs, held in collaboration with official and non-governmental organizations, will support ongoing U.S. Government health-related programs in Jharkhand. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) spends more than $13 million annually for different health care and development projects in the State of Jharkhand. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) spends more than $100,000 every year on maternal and child health care programs in Jharkhand.
As part of the World Health Day celebration on April 10, Dr. Dipanjan Roy of the CDC will lead discussions on "HIV/AIDS Workplace Policies." The program will include the screening of a film “Prevention of HIV/AIDS in the World of Work," which was produced by the International Labor Organization with support from the U.S. Department of Labor. This program, co-sponsored by the Child in Need Institute (CINI) and Central Coalfields Limited, will be held at Central Hospital, Gandhinagar, Ranchi.
Child in Need Institute (CINI) will also co-sponsor the commemoration of “Safe Motherhood Day” on April 11 in Ranchi, in which Dr. Roy will make a presentation on “U.S. Government Efforts in Support of Maternal and Child Health.”
USAID provides technical assistance, program support and management expertise to a host of projects ranging from health to developmental issues, including maternal and child health, neonatal care, urban health and eradication of malaria, polio, and other diseases that are of public health concern. Both USAID and the Government of Jharkhand are involved in these collaborative efforts.
