AMERICA FESTIVAL: U.S. CONSULATE GENERAL BRINGS AMERICA TO NORTH BENGAL

Kolkata -- The Public Affairs section of the U.S. Consulate General in Kolkata, in association with the Siliguri College has organized an “America Festival” in Siliguri, March 6 - 9, 2008. The four-day event will be inaugurated at the Dinabandhu Mancha on Thursday, March 6 at 12 noon. "America Festival" will spotlight a number of the U.S. Consulate General's products, resources and services and provide an opportunity for dialogue and mutual cultural exchange. It will also offer young people resources and information on how to pursue their academic interests in the U.S. A two-day media workshop for journalism and mass

communication students will also be held at the Siliguri College on March 7 - 8. American Center Director Douglas G. Kelly will be visiting North Bengal for this purpose.

"America Festival" will feature a wide range of programs including interactions on 2008 U.S. Presidential elections and showcasing an array of books by the American Library.  As part of the program, a film festival on “African-Americans in Hollywood” will be held in association with the Siliguri Cine Society. This will present several award-winning American films. The film festival will be inaugurated at the Dinabandhu Mancha auditorium on Friday, March 7 at 5:30 p.m and a total of five films will be shown till Sunday, March 9.

An Educational Advising Coordinator from the United States Educational Foundation in India (USEFI), and the American Library Director will make hourly power-point presentations on opportunities in U.S. higher education and on the products and services of the library on March 6 beginning at 1:00 p.m. On March 7 the presentation will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will continue till 6:00 p.m. On March 8 it will run from 10:30 - 3:00 p.m.

Entry to all "America Festival" programs is free and open to the public. Detailed program information will be available at the inauguration and can be collected from the Dinabandhu Mancha / Ramkinkar Hall.
