Major U.S. Companies Participate in New Delhi Defense Exhibition
31 January 2006
NEW DELHI -- Twenty major U.S. exhibitors are participating in the Defexpo 2006, the Ministry of Defense's Land and Naval Systems Exhibition being held in New Delhi from January 31 to February 3. This is the largest American presence at a Defexpo and is a reflection of the growing interest of the U.S. industry in the Indian defense market.
U.S. Ambassador to India David C. Mulford, who visited the exhibition on January 31 and toured the U.S. exhibits, described the U.S-India defense relationship as a strategic partnership. "The United States and India have entered a new era," he said, "and there is a growing cooperation between our two countries on security and a wide range of other issues. Our defense cooperation enhances both of our nations' capabilities and will help to improve regional and global security and stability."
The U.S. Army is exhibiting for the first time at the Defexpo. There is a U.S. Army Technology Booth, reflecting the importance of the defense supply relationship with India. Among the exhibits are the Armored Hummvee, a Future Force Warrior, UAVs, Anti-Tank Missile Simulators, etc. The Indian exhibition is one of only five international shows that the U.S. Army will be participating in this year.
Also visiting India in conjunction with the defense expo is a 30-member Executive Defense Mission that includes senior executives from 22 leading U.S. defense companies. This is the fifth and largest U.S. Executive Defense Mission to India coordinated by the U.S.-India Business Council over the past 20 months. The members of the delegation will hold high-level meetings with industry and business leaders and will also participate in a U.S.-India Defense Industry symposium to be held at Pragati Maidan on February 3 that will bring together the Government of India, the U.S. Government and industry to facilitate greater defense cooperation between India and the United States.
