U.S. Department of Commerce Announces Trade Mission of 11 U.S. Clean-Energy Companies to Kolkata

KOLKATA - U.S. Commerce Assistant Secretary David Bohigian arrived yesterday to bring 11 U.S. renewable energy companies to Kolkata. This is the second Clean Energy trade mission Bohigian brought to India, the first taking place in Delhi and Chennai in April 2007. In addition to its Kolkata visit, the trade mission will visit Beijing, Guangzhou, and Hong Kong, China as well as Bangalore, India, from Jan. 8-18.
"The continuing rapid growth of the Chinese and Indian economies presents unparalleled opportunities and challenges," said Bohigian. "U.S. clean-energy companies can help China and India meet their enormous energy demands while deploying technology that benefits the environment. The 11 U.S. companies participating in this mission are among the most innovative in the world and the mission's business and government meetings allow them to present cutting-edge products and services to these dynamic markets."
In Kolkata, Assistant Secretary Bohigian will be joined by representatives from: 3Tier, AzurePower, Capstone Turbines Corporation, Covanta, Energy Dynamics Corporation, General Biodiesel, Grammer Industries/Integrity Biofuels, Kay Nordstrom Engineering, Quantum Technologies, Inc., Synergics Energy Services, and Vista International.
?he clean-energy companies specialize in the renewable energy, energy efficiency, clean coal, and distributed generation sectors. They offer innovative solutions to India's energy and environmental challenges and are potential partners to the countries' business and government leaders. All companies participating in the mission belong to industry sectors advanced by the Asia Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate (APP). The APP is a Presidential priority to achieve a reduction in the intensity of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions and enhance energy security, in the context of sustained economic growth. The APP is a public-private partnership including seven partner countries, representing half of the world's economy, population and energy consumption: Australia, Canada, China, India, Japan, South Korea and the United States. Member countries work together to break down policy barriers and facilitate commercial deployment of technologies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance energy security.
