Access Graduation Ceremony 2013
American Center hosted the 2013 English Access Graduation Ceremony in association with Sir Syed Group of Schools. Participants who successfully completed the two year course were awarded certificates by visiting RELO Diane Millar and the Deputy Director. The participants put up an impressive show that comprised a collage display, public speaking, and staging of two short plays highlighting important social issues.

The Country Public Affairs Officer, Mr. Walter Douglas, engaged in a lively discussion with some of the leading members of U.S. Government-sponsored exchange programs from Kolkata and the northeast. The conversation provided a deeper insight into the new emerging face of the east and the various changes which now define this part of the country. As the leaders of change, the group provided varied perspectives on how to deal with some of the most imminent concerns in Kolkata and the northeast, and the challenges they faced in their journey. It was an interesting discussion on how they adapted their exchange experience in the U.S. to the particular environ in this part of the country and their role in ushering in a developed East.

U.S. Consul General Dean Thompson addressed the management and commerce students of St Xavier’s College at their Annual International Marketing summit, titled “ Inertia 2013”. Addressing this year’s theme of “Global Entrepreneurship” he spoke about the opportunities available for enhancing entrepreneurial skills in the U.S. as well as innovation, creativity and global understanding and connections through convergence of markets and cultures.

Spelling Bee Champion
American Center hosted the grand finale of the Spelling Bee at the South City International School. Regional finalists from Kolkata , Siliguri, Jamshedpur, Shillong and Agartala battled it out before an enthusiastic audience of more than 250 students. Congratulations to Sukanya Roy of Mahadevi Birla World Academy, Kolkata for her spectacular performance.

Our Voice, Our Journey:
The American Center in association with Aspen Institute India and Max Mueller Bhavan brought together women from different walks of life to celebrate the unique challenges, successes, failures and personal values that shaped their lives. The strong voices of conviction coupled with stirring video footage led to an engaging discussion with the audience on transcending borders and redefining lives.
