Observing IEW Kolkata PAO Highlights Educational Opportunities in the U.S.

On November 17 Kolkata’s Public Affairs Officer interacted with Muslim student leaders from Maulana Azad Students Organization at Badshah Khan Girls High School. He highlighted the impact of international exchanges and promoted the richness and diversity of educational opportunities in the U.S.

 

American Center Organizes Quiz at Government School 

On November 16, in observance of International Education Week Kolkata’s American Center organized a quiz at Kidderpore Muslim High School on “Being Muslim in America” and a lecture on the importance of education. More than 500 students and teachers participated.



 

In Sikkim, Deputy Director presents GLOBE equipment 

The American Center presented a kit of the Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) program to the principal of the Tashi Namgyal Academy school in Gangtok on November 10.  The GLOBE program is a worldwide initiative that allows students to input and share data about the environment.



 

Assistant Secretary addresses Press Conference

At the Kolkata American Center on November 12, Assistant Secretary for Consular Affairs Ambassador Janice Jacobs spoke to more than 200 students and nearly 30 journalists.  She highlighted the U.S. as the prime destination for foreign students, including nearly 95,000 from India.

Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs Ambassador Janice Jacobs paid tribute to Mother Teresa during a visit to Kolkata November 12.

In Gangtok November 10, the American Center’s Deputy Director’s presentation on “President Obama’s Polices and  India” at the University drew a crowd of over 500 students.




Democracy and Global Affairs Officer in Kolkata

On November 9-10, David J. Young, Chief of Staff, Office of the Under Secretary of State for Democracy and Global Affairs met with various educational groups, journalists, religious leaders, and NGO leaders. He visited NGO projects dedicated to issues on trafficking, migrant laborers, and human rights.
